A spinneret is a small, unglamorous steel disc that sits at the end of the spin pack, and it is the only place in the entire line where the yarn's cross-section is decided. Everything upstream — resin, masterbatch, temperature, pump pressure — only sets the conditions. The hole sets the shape.
Picture the moment. Molten polymer at 200-plus degrees arrives behind the plate under pressure, and for a fraction of a second each microhole has to do the same thing: pass the melt at the same rate, with the same wall friction, at the same temperature, as its 95 neighbours. If one hole runs slightly hot, or its bore is a few microns wide, the filament emerging from it is thinner. It cools, it draws, it gets tufted into the roll — and six months later, on a sunny pitch, that one row of blades wears and flects differently from the rest. You can see it in the finished turf as a faint stripe. Nobody can fix it after tufting.
That is the whole case for buying a spinneret on tolerance rather than on price. The difference between a good plate and a cheap one is measured in microns, and it shows up years later in a warranty claim.
JDS spinnerets are machined from heat-resistant alloy steel and drilled to a stated ±0.01 mm tolerance on the standard φ195/96-hole plate, with hole counts from 36 to 144 and diameters from φ150 to φ250 available to order. The plate takes PP, PE, PET and nylon, handles continuous operation to 280 °C, and is quoted at 8,000+ production hours under standard conditions. Custom plates run 35–40 days after payment; standard models ship in 7–10.
Feature | What it delivers | Why it matters commercially |
|---|---|---|
96 precision microholes (φ195 standard) | Uniform melt flow across the full plate face | Even filament diameter → no visible striping in the finished turf |
±0.01 mm stated hole tolerance | Consistent capillary geometry hole to hole | Predictable pressure drop; fewer breaks at start-up |
Heat-resistant alloy, ≤280 °C | Margin above PP/PE/PET/PA melt points | Plate is not the thermal limit; supports higher-temperature polymers |
Custom 36–144 holes, φ150–φ250 | Fine landscape fibre through heavy sports yarn | One supplier for your whole product range |
Metal construction, corrosion-resistant | Withstands polymer additives and repeated cleaning cycles | Longer interval between replacements; 8,000+ h claimed |
Broad machine compatibility | Fits JDS and most leading grass extrusion machines | Stock one part across a mixed-brand plant |
Stable flow at 100–300 m/min | Fewer extrusion interruptions | Output up to 5,000+ m² of turf per machine per day (supplier figure) |
Curly and straight yarn capability | Same plate family serves both yarn types | Simplifies spares and changeover planning |

Artificial grass yarn extrusion plants. The core application: PP and PE melt spun into grass fibre for landscaping, football and hockey pitches, golf greens and tennis surfaces. The plate determines blade diameter, surface gloss and, ultimately, how the turf wears.
Machinery repair shops and independent service teams. A spinneret is a wear part, and repair shops keep common sizes on the shelf so a customer's line restarts the same week rather than after a six-week import.
Custom fibre production. Geotextiles, decorative textiles and technical monofilaments can be run on the same plate family by changing polymer and hole specification — useful for producers who sell into more than one market.
Plants changing yarn profile. Moving from a round to a shaped capillary, or from landscape fibre to a heavier sports-field yarn, is a plate change, not a line change. Having a second plate on the shelf turns a product decision into a two-hour job.
Curly yarn lines. Curly yarn places different demands on cooling and draw; the plate must be specified against the downstream process, not copied from a straight-yarn line.
Pilot lines and R&D. Small custom plates let a producer trial a new dtex or profile before committing a full production plate.
We build the lines, not just the parts. JDS Textile Machinery manufactures artificial grass extrusion lines for straight monofilament, curly yarn and fabricated yarn, plus rewinding and recycling equipment. A spinneret specified by the people who designed the line behind it is specified against real process data.
Custom engineering is the standard offer. Standard φ195/96H plates ship in 7–10 days; anything from 36 to 144 holes and φ150 to φ250 is quoted and made to your process. Our team works from your polymer, dtex and line speed, and will tell you when an off-the-shelf plate is the better buy.
Turnkey support beyond the plate. Design, production, installation and operator training — the same engineering team that commissions extrusion lines supports the spare parts.
Predictable export terms. EX-MILL, FOB or CIF; 100% T/T in advance; a stated 35–40 day window on custom work so you can plan a shutdown around it rather than guess.
Technical continuity. Maintenance guidance, cleaning intervals and 24/7 contact, plus a parts supply relationship that lasts as long as the line does.
Q: What does the ±0.01 mm tolerance actually mean in production?
A: It is the stated hole-to-hole tolerance on the standard plate. In practice it governs how evenly melt is distributed across 96 holes, and therefore how consistent filament diameter is across the full width of the plate. Note that precision spinneret manufacturing in the wider industry often quotes ±0.001–0.002 mm on capillary diameter; if your product needs the tightest class, tell us and we will quote to a higher precision grade rather than let you assume.
Q: Can I run PET or nylon through this spinneret?
A: Yes, provided the polymer's melting point sits within the 280 °C operating limit — PP, PE, PET and PA all qualify, though PET and PA run with a narrower margin, so confirm your actual melt temperature window with us at quotation. Higher-viscosity polymers generally need a larger capillary bore.
Q: How long does a custom spinneret take?
A: 35–40 days after payment confirmation. Standard models are typically available in 7–10 days. Payment terms are 100% T/T in advance.
Q: How often should the plate be cleaned?
A: Our maintenance guidance is industrial-grade solvent cleaning at approximately 500-hour intervals, avoiding corrosive agents. Buildup in the capillary reduces flow precision and eventually blocks holes, which shows up as thin filaments and breaks rather than as an obvious fault.
Q: Will it fit a machine that is not a JDS line?
A: In most cases yes — the plate is designed for compatibility with most leading artificial grass extrusion machines, and we confirm the spin-pack seating, bolt pattern and pack type before production. Send the machine make and model with your enquiry.
Q: What is the service life?
A: 8,000+ production hours is claimed under standard conditions. Real life depends on polymer, filler content, cleaning discipline and temperature — abrasive filled compounds and infrequent cleaning both shorten it.
Q: Do you supply both curly and straight yarn plates?
A: Yes. The plate family covers curly and straight yarn production; specify the yarn type with your enquiry because the downstream cooling and draw assumptions differ.
Q: What shipping terms are available?
A: EX-MILL, FOB and CIF, with international shipping to major manufacturing hubs and tracking provided.
